Focused preparation · Year 3 reading

Find the main idea. Show your proof.

Read three short texts, follow worked examples, then answer 20 original questions with guided, supported and independent steps.

This is one reading foundation. It is not an official NAPLAN paper, complete Reading programme, tailored test or score estimate.

The lessons and practice open from a saved Year 3 main-idea goal with current learning access.

A story you can follow

  1. 1A gustWind scatters the seed labels.
  2. 2A helpful choiceAmira and Ben sort the labels.
  3. 3The resultThey plant the beans.
The whole story joins the problem, the choice and the result. A single bench or gust is a detail, not the whole idea.

How you learn it

  1. 1. Prepare. Read the whole text and point to the exact words or picture.
  2. 2. I do. Follow two answers worked from first step to final check.
  3. 3. We do. Try five questions with three clear prompts.
  4. 4. You do. Try five with less support, then ten on your own.
  5. 5. Revisit. Return after a break and explain the idea again.

Choose learner or full teaching explanations online. Student and tutor print copies use the same texts and answers.
