Frequently asked questions
Your questions, answered.
Rates, scholarships, tutor vetting, cancellations and the learning platform — the questions families and tutors ask us most.
For
Parents & students
Academic subjects aligned with the Australian Curriculum — maths, English, sciences, humanities and languages — plus creative arts, sport and fitness, and life skills such as coding and study skills. We cover Kindergarten to Year 12, university and adult learners. The full catalogue is on our subjects page.
Before any tutor takes students they pass our vetting pipeline: identity check, a valid Working with Children Check for anyone teaching under-18s, qualification checks and an interview. We are onboarding our founding tutors through that pipeline now — no tutor is listed before verification is complete.
You tell us about the learner — subjects, level, goals and preferences — and we match you with a verified tutor who fits. Before you book you can message the tutor and read their verified profile, so you know who you are working with. If it is not the right fit, we help you re-match free.
Each tutor sets their own rates — one-to-one lessons from $30/hr, and group places from $15/hr per student, so a group place costs a fraction of a 1:1 lesson. The rate on the profile is what you pay. Scholarship places are paid in full from the donation pool for families for whom cost is the barrier. No booking fees, no subscriptions, no lock-in.
Yes. There are no lock-in contracts — you can pause or stop lessons at any time. Cancellations made at least 24 hours before a session are eligible for a full refund. If a tutor is not the right fit, we re-match you free.
We are recruiting tutors with experience supporting learning differences such as ADHD, autism and dyslexia. Tell us about the learner’s needs and we will factor them into matching — you can also message any tutor before you book.
Yes. Lessons run online, so location does not limit access — any state or territory, any time zone. Tell us your time zone and preferences and we will factor them into matching. The scholarship programme gives priority to learners in regional and remote communities.
For
Tutors
Qualified teachers, coaches, degree-holders and high-achieving university students. Prior tutoring experience is not required if you have the credentials. Everyone goes through the same vetting, and anyone teaching under-18s must hold a valid Working with Children Check before taking students.
Identity check, a Working with Children Check for tutors of minors, qualification verification and an interview — plus ongoing checks once lessons begin. No tutor is listed before vetting is complete.
You set your own rate card — one-to-one from $30/hr, group places from $15/hr per student, and a group multiplies the hour because every student pays your per-student rate. You keep your rate less a dynamic platform commission stated up-front — 20% up to 20 hrs/month, 15% to 50, 12% beyond; founding tutors 15%. Teach more in a month and you keep more. The free earnings calculator estimates weekly, monthly and yearly income.
The family pays when they book, and the payment is held securely until the lesson is delivered. After the session, you and the family each confirm it went ahead; once you both confirm, your share is transferred to your connected Stripe account. If one side does not confirm within three days and no dispute is open, payment releases automatically so you are not left waiting.
Stripe’s processing and payout fees come out of your share, not the platform’s. Your take-home for a booking is your rate less the platform commission, the Stripe processing fee and any payout fee. The family always pays the rate on your profile and nothing more, so these fees never add to what they pay — they come from your side. Your dashboard shows the full breakdown for every booking: rate, commission, Stripe fee and your net.
Yes — a valid ABN is required to teach on the platform. Tutors are independent contractors running their own tutoring business, and quoting your ABN is what lets us pay you in full: without one, Australian businesses must withhold 47% of payments. Applying is free and takes minutes.
You run your own business, so you handle your own tax. No tax is withheld from your payments — your share of every booking arrives in full — and you account for it as business income. GST registration is yours to manage too, and only required once your turnover reaches the ATO threshold. Your booking history gives you the records.
Yes. Pledge weekly teaching hours on the donate page — even an hour a week. You teach a scholarship student at no charge to the family, and you can change your pledge at any time by pledging again.
Lessons start once vetting of our founding tutors is complete and verified tutors are matched with registered families. Apply now and we will walk you through the vetting pipeline step by step.
For
Scholarship & donations
Families experiencing financial hardship, with priority for Indigenous students and learners in regional and remote communities. Every place is paid in full from the donation pool, and scholarship students get the same verified tutors as everyone else.
Apply on the scholarship page — your name and your email are all it takes, with no hardship essays and no documents. A person reads every application and replies to you directly about a place.
Donate on the donate page — any amount, in one step, straight into the scholarship pool that pays tutors to teach students whose families can't cover it. If you tutor, you can give teaching hours instead. The running totals on that page show what the fund has raised and funded.
For
The learning platform
Lessons, progress and messages live in our learning platform. Sessions run through secure video conferencing inside the platform, so there is one place for bookings, session notes and communication with your tutor.
Yes. Parents get their own login to follow progress — what each session covered, the tutor’s notes and what is coming next. You see the same record the tutor writes, not a summary of a summary.
A laptop, tablet or smartphone with a stable internet connection, webcam and microphone. Some lessons benefit from extras — a drawing tablet for digital art, a keyboard for music — but nothing beyond the basics is required to start.
Accounts are created when lessons are confirmed: one for the learner and a separate parent login. You will receive login details by email, and the Log in link in the site header takes you to the learning platform.
